Now that I have ISP working for Atmel which is almost definitely going to be the MCU used in the SBC, what kind of connector should I provide for ISP programming?" At the day job, we've standardized on a 2x5 header w/2mm spacing. One pin is removed for keying. We have cables that adapt this header to Altera and Lattice ISP/JTAG dongles as well as our JTAG tester. We like the small headers because they don't take up much space, as some of the boards are really packed. Having said that: it might make the most sense to use the same sort of connector that's on a chip vendor's eval board. Silicon Labs uses that 0.1"-center header for their EC2 dongle, so I'm putting the same connector on a '231-based design I'm working on. The idea, of course, is to avoid having to make custom cables. --a |
