Many computers (including mine!) don't have serial ports anymore so this would make it difficult for some people to use ISP. Every computer still has a parallel port... as far as I know. I have an USB-Serial converter but an USB-Parallel converter is a bit hard to find, and i think the UART is one of the most usefull built-in device... so you need a serial port in a lot of times. Prahlad: I usually use and prefer a PLCC but for an starter kit may be is easier to find a DIP derivate and allows easier traks for a single layer board, and it can be used with the old an cheap 805x (not 895x) |
