I guess my question is simply this: are the upgrades changes to the core compiler, or are they little more than a bunch of new device-specific header files and configuration files?

Unless the 8051 architecture is modified (thus making it no longer an 8051), I still thank that after, what, 25 years, you've probably done all you can do to get the best performance out of the compiler.

So what's new in Keil C51 version 8.0, anyways?
