You mean that the "last post" time should be updated to reflect the last time a message is modified or posted? Or do you mean that the "new" flag should be re-applied to messages that are modified? Or both?

both.

Also, if you apply this it might be an advantage to make the "message edited" stand out a bit to avoid too many "deja vu" experiences.
