if that is what you need I recommend switching to the Philips XA series.

These are "16 bit '51" devices and the capability is phenomenal. Were I to change a project heavily dependent on the '51 architecture to 16 bit I would (and have) switch to the XA.

Of course, for new projects requiring more than a '51 - that do not have obvious reasons to use '51 type I/O - I use the ARM which has so many sources that "second source" is a misnomer.
