My point in all of this is that a solution to the problem already exists. So, why reinvent the wheel? The 8051 does a great job for what it was intended.

Currently, only Intel and Atmel make 251 parts, which is a shame ....
But if you want to use a "16 bit '51'" the XA is sooo much better than the 251. For one it has a "C based instruction set".
