Basic 52 Overlaped the XDATE and CODE. It had the Basic in internal code (8K). I recall with the additional cuircuits it could program the BASIC programs to EEPROM.

The OP has made it clear he wants to do this. He is aware that there are better choices. So, let him. It sounds like it could be possible.
