#131011 - He says he has an 80C51BH Responding to: ???'s previous message |
That means he CAN'T have BASIC internally, since it only has 4 KB of ROM.
I'm not sure where he's going, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't know how to get there. The more information surfaces, the more apparent this is. The waters have been muddied considerably by the remarks about how terrible it is to use something more than 30 minutes old, etc. It's the same-old same-old, from where I sit. People quickly dog what they can't understand, themselves. Everything the O/P has said about what he's wanting and why indicates he's completely out of his element. There's nothing wrong with a guy wanting to do something he hasn't yet learned how to do. However, it's unpleasant for folks who clearly don't know what he's trying to do to tell him how to do it. There's a totally simple approach to what he's described so far, namely to use Ultramon51, which I mention only becuase I like it, or any of a number of other monitors to program his "ROM" or BBRAM. This subject got all messed up because everybody jumped in and stated their opinion before finding out what he really wanted. He gave WAY too little information at the outset. Everybody thought that was enough, because they wanted to trumpet on about how smart they are, not at all about how to help the O/P get his job done. The O/P seemed to me to want to use what he has, else he wouldn't have told us what he has. I know many critics believe that one should never use what he already has, but I don't agree. If he wants to try to roll a brick, well, let him try. All the "help" advising him to use something he doesn't want to use won't help him. He has a picture of what he wants to do, and no amount of telling him he's wrong will teach him as much as helping him successfully to do it the hard way. A few of us, at least, know how to do that. In the ensuing messages he told us he has an 80C51BH, which has 4KB of ROM on board. He told us he has a 12 MHz crystal, but doesn't want to use it because he needs to write more slowly to his "ROM" space than to read from it. Well, that means he has to build a special circuit to enable him to do that. It doesn't mean he has to use FLASH, though that may make more sense. He's said multiple times that he wants to invent something for himself, and not buy a canned solution. Why do the guys on this forum always tell a guy his goal is wrong? RE |
