#77150 - Purpose of the project Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Maybe you should all address the exact purpose of the project. Is it really just to prove it can be done, or is it for a technology demonstrator, or what ? I don't think there's any doubt that it can be done. The idea is to do it and make it work. In part I guess it could be viewed as a technology demonstrator although I'm not sure how useful it is to show that a computer can be built on the 8052. It's obviously the wrong part for the job. Or is it the wrong part for the job? If the unit could produce a decent VGA output and be able to run programs on demand from an SD card and the whole thing (less the monitor and the SD card) could be built for under, say, $100, I can imagine quite a few companies that could actually be interested in something like that. There are companies buying "embedded computers" that run full-blown Windows or WindowsCE that do little more than act as employee check-in/check-out terminals or other simple functions and they often pay upwards of $1000 for that. The main thing they get out of that is the quality color display. If this thing could produce a decent quality display I can actually see potential commercial interest in such a device. But, aside from all that, it'd just be cool to have an 8052 computer on my desktop. :) Regards, Craig Steiner |
