#77594 - RE: Alternate forum software Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Maybe I am one of the few that still believes that the forum's software has to change. In the thread ( http://www.8052.com/forum/read.phtml?id=63716 ) we were talking about it, Michael (Karas) had mentioned http://www.codeproject.com as the best forum he have used (from software/user interface point of view), and at that time I had agreed with him ( http://www.8052.com/forum/read.phtml?id=63743 ). I took a look at codeproject.com once again and I still believe the same things about it. It is still the fastest forum I have ever saw (even for slow dial-up connections, like mine. Fortunately in the end of this month I will finally have ADSL... ;). It also maintains the current style of a thread in the 8052.com forum, which in my humble opinion is better than the phpBB forums that have each post/answer one after the other. That said I like very much phpBB forums and I don't know if you can have the same style for the threads with phpBB. The one thing I believe is that with phpBB you can solve easier many administration issues, like for example Karma system or things that have been suggested either in this thread or in the past. On the other hand phpBB forums are not very accurate when you search for something, but maybe this has to do with wrong implementation of the search feature... Also using phpBB, provided that some time in the future it is decided that forum's software has to change and that phpBB is the most appropriate, doesn't necessarily mean that you should split the forum into separate forums for separate topics. I agree that such a necessity does not exist, at least for now.
Maybe I am wrong, but, as said above, you should go for a software change Craig... George |
