#77629 - RE: Karma Responding to: ???'s previous message |
The other supposed benefit of karma was to be able to comment anonymously on posts without starting a flame war You're joking, aren't you? If more than 50% of the users reviewing my score judge it to be unfair, the score will be deleted and I will lose a point of karma for unfairly scoring. So what you suggest is basically a variant of "metamoderation" as known from Slashdot. As a slashdot regular I must tell you this is abused much worse than regular moderation (and using your moderator points you put yourself on a worse risk than by posting a message). Slashdot has a limit of -1 negative and +5 positive score on a single post. The -1 limit is one of the wisest things. You could leave ability to add negative flags to a post without getting it deeper, i.e. after first "-1" any negative score is -0 and not -1 so a post becomes "offtopic, gimme code, offensive" with -1, "offtopic x3, informative" with 0, "gimme code, good answer x3" with +2. And right for the forum moderators to revert/remove any unjust score just as they are free to remove any offensive post/thread. |
