#77652 - Listing the Forum Rules Responding to: ???'s previous message |
As I said before, the existing Forum Rules should be available to the newbies when they are going to start a new thread. This is easy to implement. The server can check (from the number of posts a user has contributed) if the user is realtively newcomer or a senior member. So server can decide and force the user to read the rules first and then post the thread. Or you can make it mandatory to read them at the time of registration.
If this is not possible, there must at least be a link and a button to see the existing rules. As a matter of fact, if a newbie posts a thread he/she immediately gets something like -3, in most of the cases. We (you can say the existing members) should not express our anger by awarding the newbie with lot of negatives when we know he is not familiar with the atmosphere here on the forum since he does not know how to ask for help (or he is unaware of the rules). I suggested alreay that one -ve score is sufficient and further negatives should be blocked. Ragunathan's suggestion is good (about to be able to read all posts under a thread, in a single page) but much has been discussed on it already. Apart from the fact that it will take time to load the page, there is a potential benifit if one wishes to save a complete thread along with replies for his/her future reading/off-line reference. On some websites, I have seen that a pop-up text appears when you place the cursor over the link (e.g. first 100 words of the text). Obviously this text gets loaded with the page. How about impelmenting this on the main page only so that user can see the first few words of the thread without opening the link? Forum search should be improved. I said it before and Bartosz added some very nice suggestions. The index page at "User Pages" seems to have bad indentation. At least the user names should be vertically alligned and there should be a limit on the page description length. |
