#85927 - Impedance of flat ribbon cable Responding to: ???'s previous message |

For the begining what is your recommendation on the value of the resistor? I have data for AWG-28 flat ribbon cable according UL2678. If every second wire is grounded (on both ends of cable!), then Z is about 95Ohm. Assuming that output impedance of 74HCMOS is about 50Ohm, then 95Ohm - 50Ohm = 45Ohm should be choosen for the series termination resistors. So, 47Ohm would be a good start. But keep in mind, that there are unavoidable tolerances with the cable and with the chips. So, a perfect match of characteristic impedance might not always be achievable. Kai |
