Hi Eric,

I have no Idea what, but something limits the voltage across the LED to Vf. With a LED 3 possibilities exist: <Vf = no light; =Vf = light; >Vf = broken LED.
Once I turned on one of my displays while having a bug in the uC code. The time-slice given to each LED column was say half a second instead of say some milliseconds. Befor I managed to turn it off, some 30 or 40 columns each having 32 LEDs were barbecued! I still remember the smell. But the same circuit worked just fine when multiplexed fast enough.

You can get by with multiplexing smaller displays, but as the upload time increase due to display size the synchronization (required for scroll) between upload and MPX becomes more and more difficult to handle.
I think that's exactly what I'm gonna do: multiplexing each 32x32 matrix individually but synchronized with other matrixes. This is one of the reasons for parallel I/O expansion.

attainable intensity is Lmax/MPX.
Could you please explain more?
