If you use a cable of 100 Ohm characteristic impedance, then you should choose a series termination of 100 Ohm. Ok, to be totally correct: If you use a cable of 100 Ohm characteristic impedance, then you should choose a total series termination resistance of 100 Ohm. Of course, this total series termination resistance of 100 Ohm divides into two parts: 1. The intrinsic source impedance of gate, which is about 50 Ohm for 74HCMOS, and 2. the series termination resistor which is to be added to get in the sum 100 Ohm. So, for a 100 Ohm cable in combination with 74HCMOS driver you would need to add a 50 Ohm series termination resistor. Kai |
